I am a 2019-20 Clore Fellow. My 2019 project, Wheel of Life, was funded by Arts Council England and is my interpretation of a zoetrope, exploring the contrast of the perceived vs the lived identity.

biography:
I am a British-Sudanese Textile/combined artist and have exhibited both nationally and internationally. I am currently a 2019/20 Clore Cultural Leadership Fellow and received the runner-up prize for the Arab British Centre Award for Culture 2019 (individual award). I work in dyes, screen printing and Devoré technique exploring themes of identity, change, communication, heritage and womanhood, and I am greatly influenced by my Sudanese & Arabic heritage. In 2018, I was commissioned by Artichoke to work with local communities in Brighton bringing deaf and hearing women together to create a banner that took part in the PROCESSIONS event to mark the centenary of women’s right to vote in the UK. I also took part in the Culture Reset programme, summer 2020.
